Minnehaha Creek

Help make our lakes and streams cleaner!

Planting a tree is the easiest way to improve the value of your property, reduce your energy needs, shrink your carbon footprint and improve our air and water quality. This August, the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District is providing 300 trees to residents in selected areas for only $26. Do your part to help clean our creek by planting one of these trees this summer.

Things to Consider

  1. It’s the law to call Gopher State One Call at (651) 454-0002 at least 3 days before digging. They will mark buried utility lines for your safety.
  2. For directions on how to plant and care for trees, click here or, ask for information on pick-up day.
  3. Save money on energy by planting large shade trees on the west or east side of your home and evergreens on the north and west side of your home.
  4. Plant Tamarack and Black Hills Spruce more than 30 ft from power lines and 15 feet from buildings to reduce future problems.
